Dear Students, Please see below for an exciting—paid!—internship in Washington, DC. Best, Prof. Celello Wiki Education works closely with the Smithsonian's Wikipedian in Residence, and she asked us to pass this paid summer internship opportunity on to relevant classes. It's for a summer internship at the Smithsonian's American Women's History Initiative and focuses on uncovering notable women in anthropology from the Smithsonian's archives and working with her to get them on Wikipedia. The intern will also help run an edit-a-thon at the Natural History Museum. The deadline is March 15. It's open to undergraduates only, and applicants must be U.S. citizens. Housing is included. Please have a look at the schedule and take special note of these three courses: -HIST 101 with Prof. Frangakis-Syrett, MTuWThF, 9:30-12:43 This is a required class for the major and fulfills Pathways. The course covers the history of Europe from Renaissance to the Enlightenment. Topics to be covered are: Renaissance as a cultural movement; the rise of Protestantism and the Wars of Religion across Europe; Exploration and the economic impact of the New World upon Europe; the Ottoman Empire (Muslim) and the Holy Roman Empire (Christian) and what it meant for Europe to be close to the Middle East. Hand outs will be given out in class regularly highlighting the main points of the lecture. -HIST 104 with Prof. Conolly-Smith, MTuWThF, 1:00-4:13. This is a required class for the major and fulfills Pathways. Learn about the United States' rise to world power, its experiences in two World Wars, the 1920s, Great Depression, Cold War, Civil Rights Movement, Vietnam, the student and women's movements of the 1960s and 70s, and the forces and presidents that shaped the world we live in today, all the way through Obama and Trump. Dear Students- I am writing today as Director of Internships for the History Department. A QC alum shared this call for interns and I want to pass on the opportunity. For the second year, the Apollo Theater Archives in Harlem is collaborating with the National Museum of African American History and Culture to offer a paid, full-time 12-week summer internship in 2020 -- sponsored by Robert F. Smith's Fund II Foundation. The program invites students, undergraduate or graduate, with a passion for archives, libraries, or museums, to apply. It's a great opportunity to participate in the development of the Apollo Archives, which is still a relatively young entity, and to get paid for doing so.
