Dear History Students, If you have been accepted to law school for next year, you should apply for the: BEBERFALL LAW SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP The Beberfall Law School Scholarship will be awarded to a graduating student, in any major, who shows great promise in pursuing a legal career. To qualify for the scholarship, students must have been already accepted to, and agreed to attend, an ABA-approved law school starting in the coming fall. [History undergraduates] Reminder to register for winter courses

Dear Students, The time to register for winter session courses is now. Please have a look at the schedule and take special note of these three courses: -HIST 101 with Prof. Frangakis-Syrett, MTuWThF, 9:30-12:43 This is a required class for the major and fulfills Pathways. The course covers the history of Europe from Renaissance to the Enlightenment. Topics to be covered are: Renaissance as a cultural movement; the rise of Protestantism and the Wars of Religion across Europe; Exploration and the economic impact of the New World upon Europe; the Ottoman Empire (Muslim) and the Holy Roman Empire (Christian) and what it meant for Europe to be close to the Middle East. Hand outs will be given out in class regularly highlighting the main points of the lecture. -HIST 104 with Prof. Conolly-Smith, MTuWThF, 1:00-4:13. This is a required class for the major and fulfills Pathways. Learn about the United States' rise to world power, its experiences in two World Wars, the 1920s, Great Depression, Cold War, Civil Rights Movement, Vietnam, the student and women's movements of the 1960s and 70s, and the forces and presidents that shaped the world we live in today, all the way through Obama and Trump. Fully booked months in advance. See the attached flyer for more details. -HIST 160 with Prof. Simon, MTuWThF, 1:00-4:13. This is a required class for the major and fulfills Pathways. *Special for Winter: You can use this course to fulfill your upper-division or lower-division non-western requirement.* This particularly topic of this course will be the History of Southeast Asia. Join Prof. Simon as you learn about this pivotal and diverse region. This course will involve open-note examinations. Please register ASAP!

Dear Students- I am writing today as Director of Internships for the History Department. A QC alum shared this call for interns and I want to pass on the opportunity. For the second year, the Apollo Theater Archives in Harlem is collaborating with the National Museum of African American History and Culture to offer a paid, full-time 12-week summer internship in 2020 -- sponsored by Robert F. Smith's Fund II Foundation. The program invites students, undergraduate or graduate, with a passion for archives, libraries, or museums, to apply. It's a great opportunity to participate in the development of the Apollo Archives, which is still a relatively young entity, and to get paid for doing so. Dear History Students, Please see the below and attached regarding a program that helps students apply to graduate school. Best, Prof. Celello Sent on behalf of Interim Dean of Graduate Studies, Dr. Glenn Burger Dear Colleagues, Please consider announcing the IRT (Institute for the Recruitment of Teachers) info-session about their graduate school preparation program to your students. The info-session is being held on Wednesday December 4, 12:15-1:15pm in Powdermaker Hall, Room 104. See the poster, attached, for details. The IRT helps students of color and other students committed to social justice and diversity, apply to MA or PhD programs within the fields of Education, Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. Currently, the program is assisting two Queens College seniors who are both English majors apply to PhD English programs. The program works with a consortium of over 40+ institutions<https://www.andover.edu/about/outreach/irt/irt-consortium> who provide their students with application fee waivers while in-house they provide year-long one on one advising and support throughout the graduate school process. There is no application fee or security deposit to their program. Participation is free of charge. 62% of IRT applicants identify as first gen and 61% identify as coming from a low-income background. The IRT mission is to empower talented underserved and underrepresented future educators to teach and serve as leaders in Education (as college professors, deans, administrators, college advisors, high school counselors, K-12 teachers, principals, etc.). They accept applications from professionals in the field, people who already have a master’s degree or are currently enrolled in a master’s program, recent graduates, and undergraduate juniors and seniors. Undergraduate juniors and seniors are also eligible to apply for their paid, summer residential internship.
