Call for Papers - Phi Alpha Theta Regional Conference 2018
ANNOUNCEMENT FOR SPRING 2018 REGIONAL CONFERENCE
Dear Phi Alpha Theta Faculty Advisors and Students:
The Alpha Xi Gamma at Dominican College in Orangeburg, New York cordially invites you to the 2018 Phi Alpha Theta New York-New Jersey Regional Conference, which will be held on Saturday, April 21 starting at 10:15 a.m. Located 20 miles north of New York City along the Palisades Parkway and surrounded by historical sites spanning the Colonial Period to World War II, Dominican College provides a convenient and historically relevant site to gather for this special event.

9:00 a.m.-10:00 p.m. Registration
10:15 a.m -11:15 a.m Keynote Address
11:30 a.m -12:30 p.m. Morning Sessions
12:30 p.m.-1:30 p.m. Lunch
1:45 p.m.-2:45 p.m. Afternoon Sessions
3:00 p.m.-4:30 p.m. Symposium and Closing Remarks
4:45 p.m.-5:45 p.m. Chapter Advisors and Student Leaders Meeting
Registration and Contact Information:
Call for Papers: All faculty and chapter members are invited to submit paper proposals on topics of interest. Panels currently are open and will be finalized based on paper submissions. Possible topics include regional studies such as the United States, Europe, Latin America, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. Thematic studies in areas such as Historiography, Diplomacy, Military History, Public History, and Digital History are also welcome. Paper proposals should be submitted as an abstract of no more than 500 words. The deadline to submit proposals is Wednesday, January 31. All presentations must be between 15 and 30 minutes in duration. Papers for accepted proposals should be submitted no later than Thursday, March 15.
Call for Session Panelists: All faculty members are encouraged to participate as Session Panelists. Those interested should submit their names, university affiliation, and areas of interest by Wednesday, January 31.
Optional Events: All conference participants are welcome to participate in a free tour of local historical sites on the afternoon of Friday, April 20. Orangetown refers to itself as “A Town Rich in History” for good reason. Among the local sites of interest are the DeWint House, the 76 House, and Camp Shanks. There also will be an optional free tour to either New York City or the U.S. Military Academy at West Point to be conducted on Sunday, April 22. If interested, please make your reservation no later than Wednesday, January 31. Additionally, all participants will receive a free three-day pass to use Dominican College’s new Hennessy Fitness Center from April 20 to April 22.
Registration Fee: The early registration fee is $20 per person if paid by Thursday, February 15. The standard fee of $30 per person will be in effect for all registrations made after February 15. For appropriate need-based reasons, the registration fee will be waived. Please indicate the reason for this request on your registration form, which is attached to this e-mail as well as pasted below. The registration fee includes coffee service with light breakfast during the registration period as well as lunch. All proceeds will be used to defray the costs of the conference. If you are a Chapter faculty advisor or student leader, please indicate on your registration form whether you intend to stay for the Chapter Advisors and Student Leaders Meeting scheduled for 4:45 p.m.
Lodging: For those interested in staying overnight, a reduced rate will be available at the Holiday Inn Orangeburg Hotel, which is just a few blocks away from campus.
