Dear History majors, The New York Civil Liberties Union (the NY affiliate of ACLU) is inviting Queens College students to apply for their *campus organizing internship*. This is a fantastic opportunity if you are thinking about *law school* and/or are passionate about *social change, justice, and organizing*! The deadline is December 1. Dear History Majors, Departmental pre-registration for colloquium (392W) courses for the Spring 2017 semester will begin on Monday October 31 and run through Thursday November 3. You must be a history major and a junior or senior to register. All students are required to take a 392W in order to graduate with the major. If you wish to register for these courses, you must do so through the History Department (it is best to come to the department in person). Dear History majors, Phi Alpha Theta <http://phialphatheta.org>, the National History Honors Society, is a nationally recognized organization that promotes the study of history and values of intellectual integrity. If you have an *overall GPA of 3.0 and above*, and have taken *more than four History courses* at Queens College with *no grade lower than B- and at least one grade of A- and above in your history courses*, you are eligible to apply. Membership in the society recognizes your academic ability, and can be listed on your CV as an honor. >From this year, membership dues are $65, which include a membership certificate and four issues of the journal The Historian. This is a lifetime membership (there are no annual dues or fees afterwards). Phi Alpha Theta organizes regional conferences every year. I will send further information when NY state conferences are announced. While membership is not necessary to present at these conferences, *if you are a member you are eligible for awards and prizes, and may apply for limited travel funds from the History department to present*. Memberships are accepted on a rolling basis and *inductions take place at the end of the Spring semester*. Dear History majors and MA students, Please see below for a great internship opportunity. The Assembly Session Internship is a comprehensive academic program which gives qualified students the chance to work in the New York State Assembly. The program is not just for political science majors -- it is open to all majors. To be eligible, applicants who meet the required internship hours must be: *Undergraduate students* who are *full-time juniors and seniors *matriculated in a college degree program, or *Graduate students* or applicants who recently *completed a graduate degree program*. The internship carries a stipend: $5,025 Stipend for Undergraduate Session Interns $15,000 Stipend for Graduate Scholars Additionally, undergraduate interns receive college credit and this internship includes an academic course (taught off campus).
