Dear History Students, Attached to this e-mail, please find the official flyer for an exciting event that will take place on campus next week. Mr. Omar Eaton-Martínez, the Intern and Fellows Program Manager at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of American History, will be on campus discussing internship opportunities at the Smithsonian in Washington, DC for Queens College students. You will also hear from a QC student who successfully completed an internship at the Smithsonian this past summer. The presentation will take place from 12:00 noon - 1:30 p.m. and will be held in the beautiful Goodwin-Ternbach Museum on campus. The event will be catered. I very much hope to see many of you there. Dear History Majors, Pre-registration for HIST 392W started this morning and classes are filling up already! Please come by the department or call to secure a spot in these courses. Pre-registration ends on Friday 11/6. Don't forget that HIST 392W is required of all history majors. You must be a junior or senior history major to register. **REMINDER -- HISTORY GRAD SCHOOL BOOT CAMP ON WEDNESDAY, 11/4 PH 108 AT 12:15** Dear History majors, The History Club is sponsoring a History grad school boot camp on November 4 at free hour (12:15-1:30pm), in Powdermaker 108. Former QC students Lawrence Cappello and Miriam Liebman, who now teach in the QC History department while pursuing their PhD at the CUNY Graduate Center, will share experience and tips. More info below. *If you're considering graduate school you don't want to miss this!* All best, Prof. Bregoli *History Grad-School Boot Camp* *What and Who*: A frank discussion about the ins-and-outs of applying to History grad-school programs led by two former QC students, Lawrence Cappello and Miriam Liebman, who both won five-year Ph.D fellowships while QC undergraduates (“fellowships” = full scholarship, health insurance, monthly salary, and a teaching appointment). *When*: Wednesday, November 4th, Free Hour *Where*: PH108 *Why*: Because grad-school admissions is ridiculously competitive, your GPA has very little to do with whether or not you’ll get in, and many of the students you’ll be up against come from colleges that have well-funded centers dedicated to such things. *What Else*: Topics will include personal statement writing, how to gather recommendations, how to find the right program for you, application timelines, basic networking, GRE advice, and help with writing sample topics. *Lawrence Cappello *has been a lecturer at QC for the last five years, and is presently a Ph.D. candidate at the CUNY Graduate Center. His work centers on American intellectual, political, and cultural history, particularly the history of privacy in the United States. *Miriam Liebman *is a Graduate Teaching Fellow at Queens College and a history Ph.D. student at the Graduate Center, CUNY.
