As for all holidays, faculty need to be ready to accommodate observant students. Many thanks, Michael Michael Wolfe, Ph.D. Dean of Faculty Division of Social Sciences 335 Powdermaker Hall Queens College-CUNY Queens, NY 11367 (718) 997-5211 (office) From: Elizabeth Hendrey <Elizabeth.Hendrey@qc.cuny.edu> Date: Monday, September 18, 2017 at 12:08 PM To: Michael Wolfe <Michael.Wolfe@qc.cuny.edu>, Craig Michaels <Craig.Michaels@qc.cuny.edu>, Bill McClure <William.Mcclure@qc.cuny.edu>, Susan A Rotenberg <Susan.Rotenberg@qc.cuny.edu>, Janice P Smith <Janice.Smith@qc.cuny.edu> Subject: Update on Jewish holidays The following are dates when classes are scheduled (final exams in the case of Shavuot) but observant Jewish students will not be there. Faculty are advised not to schedule exams on those dates or must offer makeups if they do. Additionally, students cannot be penalized for missing classes on those days. We may want to consider a joint proctored makeup session for Shavuot, since there will be students from a number of classes who miss exams. Sukkot Oct 5-6 Shmini Atzeret Oct 12 Simchat Torah Oct 13 Shavuot May 20-21 (Classes are not scheduled during Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur and Passover, so no issues there.)
