Gslisadjuncts FYI - Shortage of Rooms in the Social Sciences Division
FYI, Our division alone has almost 50 classes that have no assigned rooms to date. The so-called software that was supposed to do this, obviously, hasn't performed to spec. What else is new? Bridget has made a super human effort to secure classrooms that meet our needs. If you end up being one of the unfortunate few who are teaching in the far flung reaches of the College please note that a reassignment will be difficult if not impossible. This is just something that we will have to live with until we move into the old Law School. -- chirp elt Dr. Thomas T. Dear All: Faced with the scattering of all of our classes across the QC campus, I realized that when I saw that my upcoming 701 class was again placed in Kiely Hall, I took a walk over to the room to see what it looked like. Of course I was not happy with what I saw and thought I would let Tom know whose response was similar to the one below. We are no longer in control. Last semester Bridget was able to accommodate my 701 class in the lab area. It became clear after last semester's experience, that I would have to make arrangements in getting equipment to any assigned room going forward for any presentation-even though the assigned room clearly would not accommodate. Anyway, I was able to request a lab for the fall 2011 semester in Powdermaker Hall, Room 208, via the MYQC site. Since the class meets only once a week, on Thursdays, I intend to look at the computer room sometime this week to ensure that it has the right equipment but I was able to do this 'early' (July) enough so that OIT could honor the request. Provided this course is not cancelled like the 790.03 ( real bummer)The shortage of rooms is critical not only at QC but across CUNY. Up here at Bronx CC, I have had Instructors requesting to use our library classroom because their assigned room is either too small or really not appropriate for teaching a class. And this has been going on for two semesters now. "The early bird catches the worm ." I would advise everyone who does not know where their assigned room will be or even if they do, to take a look at it and take the steps allowed by the College to make other arrangements as I did. While I have yet to look at PH 208 to make sure it is conducive, Kiely Hall, room 416 was not which is a another issue to debate on in another venue.
