Gslisadjuncts FW: LACUNY Fraud Incident
From: LACUNY (Library Association of the City University of New York) <admin@lacuny.org> Date: Tuesday, February 14, 2023 at 3:41 PM To: James Lowry <james.lowry@qc.cuny.edu> Subject: LACUNY Fraud Incident [https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__lacuny.org_resources_Pi... ] Dear LACUNY members, I regret to inform you that LACUNY's funds are currently frozen. Last semester, I sent out checks to two contributors to an event. The checks were intercepted through the mail, and were whitewashed, with both the recipients' names and the dollar amounts altered. In total, more than $16,000 were stolen from LACUNY. I have made a fraud report with the bank and have submitted a police report. I am hopeful that we will be able to recover what was stolen. However, as our funds are frozen, I ask for your patience for any outstanding payments. I plan to work with the LACUNY officers to close this account and start a new one in the coming weeks. If anyone wishes to register as a member of LACUNY or initiate any other financial transaction with LACUNY, please contact me, and we can figure out a way to handle that while our finances are frozen.
