There were many evenings when I had the pleasure of driving him to the Forest Hills subway station as he make the long trek back to New Jersey after our late night classes. He always had a good book with him for the journey. He was also a devoted Red Sox fan and would wear his team hat with pride (even when travelling through Yankee territory.) I will miss his sense of humor and good fellowship. My condolences to his family and especially the daughter that he loved so much. May his soul rest in peace knowing that our memories will always be filled with his good deeds and comradeship. Art Arthur L. Dr. Blake was one of earliest professors while in the program and his sense of humor, passion for way out hats with his doctoral robe, his in depth knowledge of library cataloging and delivering it with his casual teaching style will always be remembered and appreciated. I miss his presence on campus and always asked about him with Dr. Suprenant and I spoke. May he rest with a good book at his side, that grand, black Mexican sombrero on his head and a smile on his face. aj ________________________________________ From: gslisadjuncts [gslisadjuncts-bounces@lists.qc.cuny.edu] on behalf of Colleen Cool [Colleen.Cool@qc.cuny.edu] Sent: Monday, August 15, 2016 12:57 PM To: gslisfac@lists.qc.cuny.edu; gslisadjuncts@lists.qc.cuny.edu; glisann@lists.qc.cuny.edu; Bridget Kavanagh; Amanda O Mckee; Mary K; mcooper@dynalytics.com; Aasim S Husain; Elizabeth F Hendrey; Richard J Bodnar; colleen.cool@gmail.com; Felix V Matos Subject: Gslisadjuncts Passing of Dr. Virgil Blake Dear colleagues, I have just learned that Dr. Virgil Blake passed away on Saturday, August 13th. Professor Blake was a member of the Queens College community for over thirty years and served as GSLIS department chair for two terms before his retirement in 2010. Many of you will remember Virgil's great sense of humor as well as his longtime passion for Western fiction; but above all, his total dedication to the GSLIS student body. We will miss him. Funeral services for family and close friends will take place on Wednesday, August 17th. A memorial service is planned for September and details will be forthcoming.
