Gslisadjuncts FW: Information on Two-year Adjunct appointments
My understanding is, all adjuncts in Queens College have already received an email from Queens College with the application form and explanation about the 2 year contract. Just in case you did not. K.B. -- Kwong-Bor Ng, Ph.D. Acting Chair and Professor Graduate School of Library & Information Studies Queens College, City University of New York From: Glenda G Grace <Glenda.Grace@qc.cuny.edu<mailto:Glenda.Grace@qc.cuny.edu>> Dear Chairs: At the September Personnel and Budget Committee Meeting, you expressed concerns about what needs to be done to comply with the two-year Adjunct appointment provision in the 2010-17 PSC/CUNY Agreement. The process is initiated by the Adjuncts who will fill out the attached form to express interest in a two-year appointment and attest to his/her belief that he/she is eligible for such an appointment. An email (with the form attached) is being sent to all Adjuncts so they are aware of the process. We ask that you also share this form with Adjuncts. We are working to make sure the form is also available in other spaces where Adjuncts may see them including Dean's Office and the form is being uploaded to the HR and Provost Office webpages on the Queen College website. The eligibility for a two-year Adjunct appointment and the procedure are described at the end of this email. Please note the three-year Adjunct appointment in the 2010-17 PSC/CUNY agreement is distinct from the two-year Adjunct appointment. Adjuncts who receive a two-year appointment are to receive a comprehensive review during the two-year period and will be considered for a three-year appointment effective beginning in the 2018-19 academic year, if otherwise eligible. We will share additional guidelines and implementation instructions for the three-year appointment at a later date. While it is not yet clear what a comprehensive review will entail, within the next month, the QC Legal Office will share detailed information about Adjunct teaching and annual evaluations procedures as detailed in the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Please feel free to contact me if you have any additional questions. Best, Glenda General Counsel and Chief of Staff 717-997-5559 or 718-997-5725 ************************ Eligibility To be eligible for a two-year Adjunct appointment, the following criteria must be met: - The Adjunct must be eligible for a two-semester appointment for the Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 semesters by virtue of having taught as an Adjunct in the same department for at least six (6) consecutive semesters (exclusive of summer sessions) preceding the Fall 2016 semester; AND - Of the six (6) semesters preceding Fall 2016, the Adjunct must have taught at least six (6) classroom contact hours in the same department in Fall 2014, Spring 2015, Fall 2015 and Spring 2016 semesters, and one or more courses in Fall 2013 and Spring 2014 semesters; AND - The Adjunct must have taught at least six (6) contact hours in the same department in at least ten (10) out of the fourteen (14) Fall and Spring semesters during the period Fall 2007 through Spring 2014. (Up to four (4) semesters of substitute service in a teaching title within the same department may be counted towards qualifying service). Procedure Adjuncts must submit a Notice of Interest Form to the Queens College Office of Human Resources located in Kiely Hall 163 no later than Monday, October 17, 2016, in order to be considered. While the original form is submitted to the Office of Human Resources, a copy of the form must also be provided to the Department Chairperson. The Provost Office and Human Resources will work closely to verify eligibility based on the above listed criteria and Adjuncts will be notified of his/her eligibility by Wednesday, February 1, 2017. Chairpersons will receive copies of the signed form and a copy will be placed in the Adjunct's personnel file. Please note that this two-year appointment is subject to sufficiency of registration and changes in curriculum but without the requirement of a comprehensive review. If you were to lose your course assignments in any given semester, you will still remain eligible for the remaining semesters of the two-year appointment.
