Gslisadjuncts Career Projection Trends for Librarians and Archivists
Dear colleagues, In revising the readings for the Fundamentals course (701), I ran across the following source from Career One Stop, a site sponsored by the U.S. Dept. of Labor. http://www.careerinfonet.org/occ_rep.asp?next=occ_rep&Level=&optstatus=11111... While a slightly disappointing projection of -5% growth for librarians between 2012 and 2022 for NYS, it’s somewhat more positive for NJ, CT, PA and Washington, DC. One also can check for wage information by metropolitan areas: median yearly 2013 income for the NY metropolitan area is $63,100, as compared to $60,900 for NYS. So, some of this information on lack of job growth may reflect conditions upstate. A similar search for Archivists in NYS indicates a projected 17% rise in employment, but a lower median salary ($53,900). I just thought this would be quite interesting to those on the Committee tracking LIS employment trends, and to all of us in general terms. Claudia Claudia A.
