Congratulations to Professor Andrew Jackson (Sekou Molefi Baako) on his retirement from Langston Hughes Community Library and Cultural Center after 35 years of service!!! I second Professor Lawton’s comments about Professor Jackson’s many contributions to librarianship, his community, and the Graduate Library School. Prof. Jackson has served both as a long-term member of the GSLIS Advisory Board and as a well-respected and much-beloved adjunct faculty member and colleague. He also is an esteemed recipient of the GSLIS “Alumnus of the Year” award. Fortunately he will continue to share his wisdom and extensive experience with our students regardless of his retirement from Langston Hughes. It is going to be extremely difficult to replace this unsung hero who has touched the lives of so many of us. Many of you know Sekou from the countless events, conferences, celebrations within and outside of BCALA; I had the pleasure of meeting him while teaching at the Queens College Library & Information Studies Department. His presence but more importantly his words resonated with me as well as with those in the audience at one of our departmental get-togethers when the department itself was under the accreditation scrutiny of ALA. His was the voice of reason and today with a concerted effort from everyone in the QCGSLIS, the department thrives.
Sekou: well done, well done indeed.

The oldest of triplets, Andrew earned his B.S. at York College (CUNY) and his MLS at Queens College Graduate School of Library and Information Studies (CUNY). Andrew provides extensive outreach to schools, libraries, community organizations, cultural institutions, and correctional facilities, and mentors graduate students and young librarians across the country. We were honored to talk with him about his life and career and the legacy he leaves behind.
