Professional Development Series on Generative AI

Exploring Generative AI Visual Literacy and Creativity in Pedagogical Environments

Leads:
Michael Mandiberg, College of Staten Island (they/them/theirs)
Ximena Gallardo, LaGuardia Community College (she/her/hers)

This session will explore how to develop digital literacy and visual literacy skills — ours, as instructors, and our students'— in light of the new availability of generative artificial intelligence tools capable of producing both text and image-based content.

Participants will learn about where the datasets used to train AI image generators come from, how those sources impact what kind of images they create, how to recognize the biases and limits of AI image and text generators, and how to help students choose when and how to use (or not to use) AI tools in research, writing, and visual media.

You can find additional details in this
flyer.
ASL CART services will be provided.
