Minutes Curriculum Committee April 5, 2012 The meeting began at 12:35 p.m. Present: Brody, Chelton, Cool, Cooper, Marielle (qcLISSA) The committee who had previously voted and solicited a faculty approval vote, ratified the LMS proposal to change the SEYS course options available for non certified LMS students to satisfy their education course requirements from SEYS 536 Educational Foundations to SEYS 705 School and Community, and from SEYS 552 Educational Psychology to SEYS 710 The Psychology of Adolescence Dr. Brody pointed out that GSLIS was not in compliance with Faculty Senate rules for course approval, and the committee asked that the Chair circulate this rule to all faculty, full time and adjunct. After some discussion, it was decided to ask the Technology Committee to meet with the Curriculum Committee to discuss the 700/706 issue. Dr. Marcum suggested that the Curriculum Committee consider making Management a required course and that public library management be made part of the requirements for the Childrens and Young Adult certificate. Dr. Brody moved that 717 be renamed “Digital Humanities” with a revised description to match. The committee unanimously approved. (This was taken to the full faculty meeting and subsequently approved there.) Dr. Li’s syllabus for a Social Media course was reviewed and rejected for lack of a critical framework, lack of graduate level assignments and contextual background. A more detailed memo for Dr. Li is being drafted by Drs. Brody and Chelton. Professor Szeto’s music librarianship syllabus was enthusiastically approved with the suggestion that mention of supplies can be deleted and the phrase about student work be added. After some discussion of 737, Dr. Chelton said she would call Dr. Smith about the summer version of this course. Dr. Brody pointed out that there were still glitches among the graduate bulletin, CUNYFirst, our own website, etc. She volunteered to ask Chris Vickery to help us verify what exactly is in CUNYFirst. The meeting adjourned at 2 p.m. Mary K. Chelton
