Dear Colleagues, New York City College of Technology (NYCCT) LGBTQIA+ Collective invittes you to an online training deedicated to creating a safe space for LGBTQIA+ students on March 9 from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. This event is fully remote. This online training prepares individuals to understand the importance of creating a Safe Space for LGBTQIA+ students and colleagues. Learn about LGBTQIA+ identities, terminology, and how to make your campus space as safe and welcoming as possible. Participants will receive an official Campus Pride Safe Space certificate with their name upon completion of the full two hour training. Participants will learn and understand key moments in LGBTQ civil rights as well as the State of LGBTQIA+ Equality when it comes to equity and inclusion in the United States. In addition, individuals will better understand terminology and key components to LGBTQIA+ identity. To conclude the training, participants will explore and identify ways to be an advocate and an ally for LGBTQIA+ people and how they can create a Safe Space. Everyone receives a personalized Campus Pride certificate with their name to be visible as a Safe Space. Learning Outcomes: * Learn and understand key moments in the LGBTQ civil rights movement. * Explain the difference between sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression. * Define terminology used to describe sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression. * Explore and identify ways to be an advocate/ally for LGBTQ people. * Discuss how you can take action as a Safe Space.
