Subject: Carol Douglas Memorial Endowment Celebration
Dear Colleagues,
I would like to invite you to the first annual Carol Douglas Memorial Endowment Celebration will be held on
November 17 at 12:30 PM in the Q-side caffe. Everyone is invited to join us in honoring Carol and celebrating her life. Please share with the faculty and staff members in your departments.
Carol Douglas worked in the School of Social Sciences for over ten years, first in the Sociology Department and later in the dean's office as the Administrative
Executive Assistant. She was also a founding member and leader of the Black and Latinx Faculty and Staff Association (BLFSA). Universally loved by faculty and staff members as well as students, Ms. Douglas served as an inspiring mentor for her junior colleagues
and was admired as an outspoken leader and an avid advocate for campus diversity and inclusion. As she constantly brought people together for events and celebrations and devoted herself to her job, she made a point to connect with many on a personal level
and genuinely cared about the well-being of all. Members of the School of Social Sciences were deeply saddened by her sudden death on September 7, 2021. To honor her memory, faculty and staff members have raised more than $25,000 to commemorate her legacy
by setting up the Carol Douglas Memorial Endowment Fund under the auspices of the School of Social Sciences.
Funds from the account will be used to support a student award for promoting equity and inclusion on the Queens College campus, and an annual event honoring
Ms. Douglas’ memory.
