Dear Colleagues,
As you know, our accrediting body, the ALA Committee for Accreditation has demanded that we have more cohesive planning processes.
An essential component of this process is the mid-range planning for delivery of services to our current customer base, the continuing and incoming students, in the form of a sustainable but flexible rotation schedule.
Beginning in the Spring semester 2013 I intend to implement a one year sliding-window rotation schedule that is planned and projected on a yearly basis and adjusted as needed, depending upon enrollment in the current and immediate past semester and recognizing the desires and requirements of our students. By sliding-window I mean that at all times, in addition to the schedule for the following semester, there would be a projected schedule of required and elective courses that reflects mid-range planning efforts and which extends forward by at least one year.
To get the ball rolling here: shortly after I come on board as Chair of the GSLIS in January 2013, I will give you a list of the courses that we hope to offer in the coming year and will be asking you all to give me a list of the courses you would like to teach in the Summer I 2013, Summer II 2013, Fall 2013, and Spring 2014 semesters; including the preferred days and time of day when you would wish to teach such courses and including a ranking of your desired assignments by your own priorities.
Please start thinking about your schedules going forward and expect to hear from me in early January.
Thanks.
