Dear colleagues,
Please find attached the draft minutes of the December 11, 2014 joint meeting of the Assessment and Curriculum/Ed Tech Committees, with these caveats.
1. The College is closed February 12, 2015, the date we had proposed for the next CET meeting, so the CET meeting is rescheduled for Thursday, February 5 at 1:30 p.m.
2. Item 16 was approved by email vote as of Friday, January 9, 2015, since no objections were raised to the message dated January 6, 2015. Background follows in blue.
We had meant to bring up this proposed minor change from the Curriculum/Ed Tech (CET) Committee for a vote at our December Faculty meeting, but were distracted by our delicious lunch and other activities. We would like to put this to an email vote now, so that we can proceed with submitting the required paperwork to the Grad Curriculum for their first meeting in February.
Background:
Many courses in our course catalog/graduate bulletin do not specify that all four core courses are required as pre-requisites for advanced courses. As a result, it is possible by choosing carefully to go nearly all the way through the program without having completed the core.
After much discussion, members of CET approved a motion at the December 11, 2014 meeting for the following:
a. For courses that do not presently list all core courses as prerequisites, we will have the option that all need core courses as prerequisites OR permission of instruction
b. This will be submitted as a minor course change for each course to the Graduate Curriculum Committee.
We will assume this has your approval if we don’t hear from you by Friday, January 9, 2015 at midnight.
Please see attached minutes below.
Sincerely yours,
Claudia A. Perry and Linda Z. Cooper, CET Co-Chairs
