Dear P&B and Search Committee Members, Dr. Julia Skinner will give a talk with both academic community (i.e., us faculty) and others (i.e., student) as target audience on Feb 22, starting at 11:00 am. I will send announcement to gslisfac, gslisadjuncts@lists.qc.cuny.edu, and glisann. Here is the title and content: INTERSECTING THEORY AND PRACTICE: NEW YORK LIBRARY HISTORY AND PRACTICE-FOCUSED ARCHIVAL RESEARCH, This talk uses research on the history of the 135th Street branch of the New York Public Library as a jumping off point for discussing work that combines theory and practice. This study utilized the records of the branch and other relevant materials, such as correspondence from public figures, to outline the branch's history and to test two theories using qualitative methods. After a brief discussion of the study, the talk will move into a discussion of how theory and practice can be intersected in archival research, using the presenter's experience as a researcher and a special collections administrator. Thank you very much for all the inputs, finally it is happening!!! Best K.B. ---- Kwong-Bor Ng (Ph.D.) Professor and Vice Chair, Graduate School of Library and Information Studies, Queens College, CUNY
