A number of you have asked about the implications of yesterday's ALA appeal decision. Here's what it means for us at this time:
1. First and most important - while the ALA Executive Board
could have upheld the decision to withdraw GSLIS' accreditation, they
did not do so, and we remain accredited, under Conditional status. We are currently enrolling new students for
the fall semester.
2. If all goes according to the ALA directive, the Committee on Accreditation will give us another chance for review in fall 2014, with a new
accreditation decision to be announced in January 2015. Our
accreditation status would remain Conditional until this new decision.
3.
Although we are very optimistic, we must wait until November 2013 for
the final word. At that time, the Committee on Accreditation holds their
next scheduled meeting and will formally announce their decision to go forward with the fall 2014 review. Until we receive this formal announcement in November, we must advise students to complete their program requirements by end of Fall 2015 in order to graduate with an accredited degree. In November we will update you about changes to this deadline for program completion.
I hope this message has answered most of your questions about where we stand right now with ALA accreditation. We are very excited to be moving forward!
