REGENTS ADVISORY COUNCIL ON LIBRARIES ISSUES SECOND DRAFT OF 2020
VISION PLAN; INVITES LIBRARY COMMUNITY TO SOLICIT PUBLIC INPUT

The New York State Regents Advisory Council for Libraries has released
the second draft of Creating the Future, a 2020 Vision and Plan for
Library Services in New York State: Preliminary Recommendations of the
New York State Regents Advisory Council on Libraries to the New York
State Board of Regents.  The deadline for submitting written comments
about the second draft is February 15, 2012.  Comments will inform the
development of the final plan which the Regents Advisory Council on
Libraries will present to the New York State Board of Regents in April
2012.

Deputy Commissioner for Cultural Education and Acting State Librarian
Jeffrey W. Cannell and Regents Advisory Council Chair Gerald Nichols
encourage libraries and library systems to assist the Advisory Council
in soliciting broad feedback from library users and the general public
on this second draft of the 2020 Vision Plan by posting a downloadable
widget to their websites.  This widget will lead library users to the
new draft document and provide them with an opportunity to submit
comments and improvement suggestions by email.  The widget is now
available at:
http://www.nysl.nysed.gov/libdev/adviscns/rac/2020v2/links.htm

Libraries are also encouraged to publicize the availability of the
draft 2020 Vision Plan document to decision makers and to the general
public in their local communities and actively encourage feedback and
comment.   To that end, a draft press release suitable for use by local
libraries and library systems is now posted on the Regents Advisory
Council on Libraries website at:
http://www.nysl.nysed.gov/libdev/adviscns/rac/2020v2/links.htm

This second draft document reflects hundreds of comments submitted
through November 2011.  In addition to the very helpful input from
statewide education and library groups, libraries, library systems and
the general public, the second draft also includes suggestions made to
Regent Roger Tilles and Deputy Commissioner of Cultural Education and
Acting State Librarian Jeffrey W. Cannell during an open meeting held on
November 4 in Saratoga Springs.

For more information about the Regents Advisory Council on Libraries,
please visit the State Library's website at:

Any questions about the Regents Advisory Council on Libraries 2020
Vision Process and this call for input on the second draft may be sent
to John Hammond, Chair, Regents Advisory Council 2020 Vision Planning
Taskforce at john@nnyln.org or to Gerald Nichols, Chair, Regents
Advisory Council on Libraries at Gerald.Nichols@liu.edu
