Dear colleagues,

A reminder that there will be two important events scheduled this coming Wednesday, 2-11-15,  during Curriculum Space, 5:45-7:10.  Regular 3:55 classes will end early, and 6:40 classes will begin late, to accommodate these special events.

An introduction to APA Style will be held in the President’s Conference Room #2, in Rosenthal Library.

An event targeting students in the Archives Program will be held in the Student Lounge at the same time, as noted below.

The introduction to APA Style, with an emphasis on citations and references, is especially important for students in LBSCI 701, and for those in required core courses who have no previous experience with the 6th edition of the APA Style Manual.  It should serve as an important refresher for any students needing to brush up on their APA skills, especially for those enrolled in LBSCI 709.

Calling all Archives Students:

What: Professional Engagement for Archives Students
Where: GSLIS Student Lounge, 2nd Floor of Rosenthal Library
When: Wednesday February 11, 2015 at 5:45-7:15pm

We will be hosting two distinguished alumni of GSLIS and the Archives program back at QC next week during Curriculum Space to discuss student involvement in three important professional organizations: the Society of American Archivists (SAA), the Mid-Atlantic Regional Archives Conference (MARAC), and the Archivists Round Table of Metropolitan New York (ART).

The session will consist of short presentations about the benefits of student membership and participation in professional archives organizations, followed by a Q&A discussion in which students will be encouraged to ask questions about professional engagement and the field in general.

Our guests include:

Jenny Swadosh (GSLIS '07), Associate Archivist for the New School Archives and Special Collections, member of SAA's Reference, Access, and Outreach Section, mentor to new professionals through SAA's Mentoring Program, and active MARAC member.

and:

Nick Pavlik (GSLIS '11), Senior Archivist at the 92nd Street Y and Director of the Programming Committee at ART. Prior to the 92nd Street Y, Nick worked on grant-funded processing projects at the Brooklyn Historical Society, the American Museum of Natural History, and the New York Transit Museum.

We look forward to seeing you at one of these events!
