Hi,

I hope that you are enjoying the summer.  So far it has not been particularly pleasant for the GSLIS.  Enrollment at the College, and the GSLIS, is below that in the Fall of 2010.  That means that funding is going to be cut even further than we anticipated.  Every departmental chair has had to meet with their respective Deans to examine potential savings and we have not been spared.  It is my sad duty to report that GLIS 790.3: Storytelling has been cancelled under orders from our Dean.  The fifteen minimum student enrollment limit is being strictly adhered to with only certain exceptions allowed.  We have managed to save a couple of classes because of their importance to the School/curriculum but the reality is that the budget is tight and is liable to get tighter.  While I do not expect that there will be any more course cancellations there are still a couple of courses [core and elective] that the Dean has reserved judgment upon; she is willing to let us go a couple more weeks before a final decision is made in the hope that additional enrollments will result.

I am sorry if the cancellation of Storytelling has affected you; believe me, there is nothing that can be done.  We expect to offer the course again in the Spring in the hope that a once a year offering, instead of semester by semester, will attract sufficient numbers of students.

I will keep you posted as events evolve.  Hopefully, there will be no additional Fall schedule adjustments.
