Students Earning the Certificate in Archives: As circulated in a previous message the Graduate School of Library and Information Studies and the Archives Certificate program were very well represented at this year Conference of the Society of American Archivists in Chicago. In addition to having two students participate on professional panels we also had three students present poster sessions. This was a well noted presence, and, one that allowed for important student exposure and networking. I write at this early date to urge current students and recent alum to consider submitting poster or panel proposal for the 2012 conference, in San Diego. At my request I asked students Donald Corr and Rebecca Weintraub to offer brief reflection on their experiences presenting in Chicago. "I'm so glad I had the opportunity to present a poster at this year's SAA conference. Not only was a great way to network with my fellow students from archives and LIS programs across the country, but it gave me a solid introduction to the professional conference circuit. My experience was so good that I'm proposing a poster for 2012's conference in San Diego!" "As a student poster presenter at the 75th annual SAA conference in Chicago, I was able to see how my research performed at Queens College fits into the bigger picture of other student work as well as the research of working professionals. Most importantly, though, I had the opportunity to network with top students and future colleagues from the University of North Carolina and the University of Texas, among others. The ice cream social and archivists' tweetup showed, too, that archivists definitely know how to party." I am, of course, happy to discuss questions and prospective proposals - either poster or panel. Proposal are due October 3.
