Subject: To departmental chairs: teach online, update and call for participants for summer bootcamp
To: Michelle.Fraboni@qc.cuny.edu, jean.kelly@qc.cuny.edu

Dear colleagues:

This email is coming to you via blind copy.  I'm using a list of this and next year's departmental chairs, kindly provided by the Office of the Provost.

During the past year, the Center for Teaching and Learning has held two intensive week-long bootcamps for faculty interested in teaching online. We are happy to report that 42 faculty from all 4 divisions of the college have attended these bootcamps, and have committed to developing and implementing courses with at least 50% of their scheduled class meetings to be replaced with online activities or virtual meetings. Additionally, 6 Queens College faculty attended CUNY’s 3 week intensive teaching online certification program.  In all, the college has 48 "hybrid mentors", faculty who have been certified through this training to teach courses fully online or in a hybrid/blended format.  They are listed here:

We are planning another round of training this summer, and have just released a call for participants:

The deadline to apply is June 1.  We hope you will encourage interested faculty in your department to participate.  (We anticipate organizing another round of intensive training in January 2012.)

If you have any questions about this initiative, please don't hesitate to contact either of us.

Best wishes, and enjoy the summer!
