Subject: Summer workshops for online and hybrid instruction

Colleagues:

As we look ahead to the fall term, I thought you might want to know that we are ready to accept registration for the June and July 2015 workshops preparing CUNY faculty to teach online or hybrid courses, workshops that are themselves completely online.

Starting immediately, we will begin accepting applications for the June and July workshops of "Preparation for Teaching Online: A Foundational Workshop for CUNY Faculty," scheduled for 6/15-28/15 and 7/13-26/15 respectively. Again, all workshop activities will be online.

Applicants will need supervisory sign-off indicating they will be scheduled to teach at least one online or hybrid course in the term(s) ahead, with priority given to those scheduled to do so in the coming fall term.  That supervisory approval (by both the department/program head and the CAO) is especially important since the campuses are to pay each faculty member who successfully completes the workshop 10 hours at the non-teaching adjunct rate for their participation; this amount will be reimbursed to the college once the faculty member has taught six online or hybrid credits within the two semesters following the workshop. (As noted in earlier announcements, this is to ensure that there is follow-through -- actual delivery -- on the online or hybrid courses these workshops are intended to foster.)

The description of the workshops and the application form can be found at http://cunyonline.commons.gc.cuny.edu/ -- where you also find the full annual schedule of workshop dates at the bottom of the page, just above the means to register for the summer workshops.

Thanks for your attention to this. I look forward to seeing you at Academic Council tomorrow morning, and can answer any questions you may have about this then.
