Dear Colleagues,
We write to introduce you to the
CUNY Alliance to Defend
Higher Education [CADHE], a newly formed group of faculty and staff organizing responses to
attacks by the federal government on the curriculum and policies at our university and higher education more broadly.
Our first initiative is to lobby the central administration at CUNY to adopt a
mutual academic defense compact. You might have heard about the mutual academic defense compacts (or MADCs)
being
established by other university systems, most notably by the Big 10 universities. Nearly
every
CUNY campus senate and the University Faculty Senate passed MADCs last academic year, and we are working to persuade the Chancellor and Board of Trustees to adopt a university-wide compact.
If you would like to learn more about who we are and our perspective please
visit our website and
consider signing up for our mailing
list and getting involved.
In solidarity,
CADHE Organizing Committee
