Hi all, We know Dr. Surprenant sent out a revised calendar on Feb. 5 regarding changes in the Curriculum Space schedule, but wanted to reaffirm that we (Drs. Ping Li and Claudia Perry) will be presenting a workshop on the 6th edition of the APA Style Manual at the session on Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2011. Dr. Surprenant's calendar also is included as an attachment below. For those of you unfamiliar with "Curriculum Space" , this is a time set aside one day each month (on a different day each month), when 3:55 classes end early (at 5:45) and 6:40 classes start late (at 7:15). This enables us to offer supplementary workshops and orientations, and interesting outside guest speakers, without competing with regular class sessions. We are grateful to Dr. Roberta Brody for initiating this program. The key point is, by attending the Curriculum Space, you are NOT missing class. Faculty also are encouraged to attend these sessions. Please don't hesitate to contact us (Drs. Li and Perry) with any confusion as to the logistics. Multiple events often are scheduled at the same sessions, permitting choice of attendance. Due to the lateness of the schedule change, we are still awaiting confirmation of the room and whether the Writing Center also will be able discuss their services. These will be posted as soon as available. BUT, we wanted to stress how important this session is for all new students in the core courses, who are likely not familiar with this new edition of the APA Style Manual, which will be required for all current and future writing projects in the program, and especially 709 projects. Attendees at last fall's event (even those who were in their last semester), were extremely positive in their remarks about how helpful they found the workshop. Members of the faculty have found the new edition to be, shall we say, "challenging", with a relative paucity of examples in the official publication. So, we will be sure to be including examples from other supportive websites. We will post the PPT file so that if you wish to take notes you may do so, but we do encourage you to attend. Among the highlights of last semester's session was the Q&A session which brought up some really interesting points and questions. We look forward to seeing a large crowd (last fall at least 55 attended, and many 709 students commented on how helpful they found it). Many thanks, and more to come soon! Drs. Ping Li and Claudia Perry
