I concur as well on this because this past semester the The 2011 Carnegie Corporation of New York/New York Times I Love My Librarian Award Ceremony was held December 8 at The TimesCenter in New York City with more than 300 guests in attendance. I was invited to bring my students in my 701 class but because of class schedules, travel problems etc., it became obvious that I would not be able to attend. But this could have been a once-in-a-lifetime experience for our students to see why "librarians across many venues" are not only liked but are professional and dedicated to their work. You raise some good and valid points, Mary. I also think hosting a national library speaker will provide greater exposure of the QC GLIS and recognition of our program. aj ________________________________ From: gslisadjuncts-bounces@lists.qc.cuny.edu on behalf of Mary K Chelton Sent: Fri 12/30/2011 10:00 AM To: gslisfac; gslisadjuncts@lists.qc.cuny.edu Subject: Re: Gslisadjuncts gslisfac decision on curriculum spaces??? I'm sorry to be this way, but this just codifies what we're doing now and continues competition among us for the same dates. We also have an unfortunate history of not supporting each other's extracurricular activities, whether through attendance, additional promotion, scheduling conflicts, or whatever. I think at least one of these each semester should be devoted exclusively to a national speaker, with required attendance, from among whatever amalgamation of interests LIS now encompasses, with EVERYBODY supporting it; if we continue this way, we will remain fractured with a fair number of students disengaged during CS time.
