Dear faculty,
By now you have heard much about the CUNY budget cuts and the impact this is having across departments college wide. Adjunct budgets are next to come under the microscope and GSLIS will have to make some cost saving moves. Courses that can be taught by full time faculty must be given to those faculty before being assigned to adjuncts. In some cases, faculty are being asked to defer banked course releases in order to teach a course that might otherwise go to an adjunct. Departments are being asked to carefully consider the number of elective courses they offer and courses with small enrollments are unlikely to run in the spring. Adjunct faculty will not be permitted to offer Special Topics courses in spring 2015.
I will be meeting with Dean Wolfe later this week to discuss specific ways to trim the GSLIS adjunct budget for spring and I will report back to you as details become available.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
