Colleagues,
Since Ben (Chair) will not be in attendance I forward this FYI.
The committee is asking for faculty vote on one issue; I will ask the
other committee members to explain this matter and its ramifications
before the vote.

Subject: Fw: Academic Standing Committee Meeting Minutes.
Dear James,
As you are aware I will not be attending today's Faculty Meeting.
The only agenda item I have is a full faculty vote of the Conditional Admissions Agreement designed to initiate cooperative relationship with the University of Sichuan. As advised in the circulated minutes, this initiative has been approved by the Academic Standing Committee.
I attach a copy of the program description.
I, clearly, vote in favor of this initiative with the agreed upon conditions that Booby raised raised at our meeting and noted in meeting minutes.
Most sincerely,
Ben Alexander

Minutes
Academic Standing Committee Meeting
October 26, 2011
In Attendance: Alexander, Brody, Cooper, and Li.
Absent: Kibirige
Business
- It was recognized and unanimously agreed that Colleen Cool be appointed to the Committee.
- The Committee unanimously approved the Conditional Admissions (International Pathway Program Model) that will establish a formal relationship between GSLIS and Sichuan University.
This decision is predicated upon two assurances:
A. That GSLIS only admit students from an Official / Partner Institution
B. That student will only be admimtted to GSLIS upon the successful score of 600 on the TOFEL Exam
The Committee's approval forwards the consideration of the agreement to a full faculty vote.
- The Committee addressed the concern of GSLIS student Tim Podell. Mr. Podell has request a alternative to 703 due to documented learning disability. The Committee agrees that despite our understanding for Mr. Podell's condition that an alternative to 703 can not be sanctioned. 703 is gateway course and provides a necessary skill set that students are required to use across their study within GSLIS. Allowing an alternative would only delay this concern for future deliberation.
- The Committee discussed Dennis Stumpo's request to be awarded a Post Maters Certificate. The Committee unanimously denied this request. Mr Stumpo was appropriately admitted to this program but never completed a program of study. This is an unequivocal requirement for the certificate.
- The Committee requests that the Chair confirm available funding to award Wilson Scholarships for the Spring 2012 term. Once confirmed the Chair of the Academic Standing Committee will post the application procedures and the Committee will evaluate applications and make awards.
Please address any edits or concerns to my attention for revision.
Sincerely,
Ben Alexander
