Queens College, CUNY* * February 2011* The Asian/American Center is inviting course proposals from faculty across academic departments of Queens College to apply for funds to enrich the college curriculum and to contribute to the building of a new Asian America= n Pacific Islander Community Studies (AAPICS) program for our campus. Funds i= n the amount of $5000 will be given to prepare new courses or enrich existing courses during summer 2011 to be taught in the following academic year 2011-2012. The proposed courses should either focus on any aspect of Asian American PI communities or broader topics (such as race and ethnicity, immigration and citizenship, community empowerment, cultural/linguistic/religious practices, health or education policy, literary/media representations, entrepreneurship and economic development, social identities, art production, and civic and political participation) dealing with specific ethnic or pan-Asian American communities, Asian American diasporas and inter-community relations. *The application deadline is April 15**th**.* *Interested applicants with queries are encouraged to contact Asian/America= n Center. * Selected proposals will be announced by April 28th, 2011. Successful applicants will receive the grant amount in the summer of 2011. *Applications should include* : * 1. Proposal* - Proposals should be no more than 1500 words, and should detail: a) Information on proposed AAPI/diverse community course, b) Ideas for how the course would foster faculty-community collaborations (AAPI Community Resource Guide available at the Asian/American Center) , c) Innovative pedagogical practices, d) Course=92s potential to advance new research/scholarship. * 2. Brief Budget* including anticipated use of funds (e.g. books, supplies, faculty time) *3.* *A letter of support from the Chair of the Department of the applicant= . 4. Faculty=92s Curriculum Vitae* Selected faculty will be making a commitment to participate in AAPICS seminars, assist in curriculum development activities and gathering outcomes-related data, submit a syllabus and a report on teaching the new/updated course at the completion of the academic year 2011-2012.
