The Rutgers University Department of Library and Information Science is looking for qualified people to teach a master’s level Information Technology course and an undergraduate level Introduction to Computer Concepts course. Both courses are scheduled for fall 2011 and will be held on the New Brunswick campus.
The Information Technology course description is as follows: This course gives students a hands-on introduction to software tools and technology used in the provision of information services. Key concepts in this course include Web technologies (e.g., XHTML, CSS), Web programming (e.g., JavaScript, PHP) and data management (e.g., XML, MySQL). Students also learn how to use and evaluate Web services, social software and open source software tools. Students also learn how information technology is used in today’s libraries, e.g., integrated library systems, technical services, document management, and provision of Web services.
The Introduction to Computer Concepts course description is as follows: This is an introductory course to the ITI undergraduate program in the Department of Library and Information Science which examines the basic principles of computer systems and applications. It covers the basic mathematical-theoretical principles that govern the functioning of computers, the architecture and organization of computer systems, the role of hardware and software, and the role of creative thinking and problem solving in building software applications. The focus is not on programming itself but does expose students to basic programming principles with Python used as the introductory programming language, and knowledge of, or willingness to learn this language is required.
