Hi everyone and happy holidays!

Apologies for intruding on a holiday week....

I just received a note from Fei-Wen at the Center for Teaching and Learning informing me that only 4 people from GSLIS have registered for ePortfolio workshops thus far. If you intend to register, please do so asap.  The workshops were put together for especially us at GSLIS and are open to us first but if there are empty seats CTL will need to open the workshops to the rest of QC on January 7.

Please keep in mind that the ePortfolio/Learning Matrix component in GSLIS core courses will be a requirement this spring 2013 semester and all core course instructors will need to access student work stored in the Learning Matrix.

GSLIS needs to proceeed with this initiative to satisfy the ALA Committee on Accreditation in the area of assessment.

While it is most important that core course instructors register for a workshop, please note that very soon the Learning Matrix component will be required in ALL courses so all faculty members are welcome to attend these workshops.

The link for dates and registration is http://tinyurl.com/QPortfolio2013JanuaryWorkshops  Please also see the messge below sent on December 21 for more information.

If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.

Thanks and best wishes for a wonderful New Year,
Linda

Dear Colleagues,

On December 9, you received an announcement outlining the GSLIS Epsilen ePorfolio Learning Matrix requirement for all core courses that will begin in Spring 2013.

The Center for Teaching and Learning is offering free workshops at a number of different times during the week of January 14 to familiarize you with Epsilen ePortfolios and assist you with setting up an account so that you will be able to access your student work.  Both full time and adjunct faculty are invited to register for these workshops.  If you are teaching a core course in the spring,  you are strongly urged to attend.  Please register for the workshop(s) you wish to attend at http://tinyurl.com/QPortfolio2013JanuaryWorkshops

Student ePortfolio construction will be self directed - online tutorials are in place so that students can create their portfolios on their own.  Instructors will need to look at the matrices at the end of the term to make sure students have deposited their assignments. This new course requirement will be included in the portion of the course grade that covers Participation. It is recommended that a reminder such as "Remember to place your assignment in your Learning Matrix" be included at the end of every assignment articulation in the syllabus. Syllabi templates including a description of this requirement and urls for tutorials will be distributed shortly.

We hope you take advantage of this workshop opportunity. GSLIS and the Center for Teaching and Learning will be available for ongoing support in this area. If you have questions about the ePortfolio Initiative, please do not hesitate to send them to me.

Best regards for a good end term and a wonderful spring start-up,

Sincerely,

Linda Cooper
