greater exposure of the QC GLIS and recognition of our program.

I'm sorry to be this way, but this just codifies what we're doing now and continues competition among us for the same dates. We also have an unfortunate history of not supporting each other's extracurricular activities, whether through attendance, additional promotion, scheduling conflicts, or whatever. I think at least one of these each semester should be devoted exclusively to a national speaker, with required attendance, from among whatever amalgamation of interests LIS now encompasses, with EVERYBODY supporting it; if we continue this way, we will remain fractured with a fair number of students disengaged during CS time.

There have been a number of queries re. Special Events Committee and it's role in planning for CS for Spring (and, beyond).
I circulate below the minutes from the Committee's December 15, 2011 meeting and circulated to Committee on December 20. James noted one edit (included in the below version). I offer this version as approved by the Committee.
In terms of dates I believe we are consistent with Bobby's note below: February 7, March 12, April 19, and May 2.
I am away this week but will be checking email intermittently if there are questions.

Special Events Committee
December 15, 2011
Present: Ben Alexander, James Marcum, Walter Valero
- Ben Alexander was nominated to Chair Committee. Nomination accepted. Committee voted unanimously in favor of appointment.
- Committee agreed to assume an administrative responsibility for planning of Curriculum Space Events. N.B. the logistics of planing individual events remain responsibility of individual organizers, and, not the Committee. This includes, space reservations, publicity, audio / visual needs etc.
- To assure adequate planning and planning and publicity Committee assumes the responsibility to meet in May of each Spring to determine Curriculum Space dates for following fall, and, in October of each fall to determine dates for following spring term.
- It is agreed that the first Curriculum Space of each term include APA / Writing Center as well as 701 Orientation
- It is agreed that the second Curriculum Space of each term include Career Advisement
- It is agreed that the third Curriculum Space of each term include 709 Orientation
- It is agreed that the fourth Curriculum Space of each term include Internship Orientation.
