As a co-coordinator of the Long Island Coalition from its inception in 1982 until I retired in 2010, I gave special attention to censorship issues in public schools and libraries. In this regard, I developed an exhibit for national distribution, and did presentations on this topic in Nassau and western Suffolk county libraries. Several years ago, I wrote an article on censorship that I recently updated, entitled "Censorship in Libraries and Classrooms:Myths and Realities." I submitted the article to the editor of Anton Community newspapers, and it was published last week in their 17 Nassau community newspapers. It has also been posted on the Banned Books website. In the spring of 2013, I gave a power point presentation, "Censorship in Schools and Libraries," at the Long Island Library conference. Mary Westermann, a faculty member at the Palmer School of LIU, has invited me to present this program to her graduate students, and I did so on three occasions. If you, or any members of your department, are interested in this presentation, I will be pleased to do so as a professional courtesy. Sincerely, Don Parker (516) 944-9799 -- Linda Cooper, PhD Associate Professor Graduate Advisor for LMS & Coordinator of LMS Programs Graduate School of Library and Information Studies Queens College, City University of New York linda.cooper@qc.cuny.edu <https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/html/compose/static_files/linda.cooper@qc.cuny.edu> 718.997.3790
