Hi guys, As you all know, Dr. James Marcum will be joining the faculty as departmental Chair/Director this coming Fall. As promised, here is a short bio. We are all looking forward to having him on board. James W. Marcum joins the Graduate School of Library and Information Studies (GSLIS), Queens College, CUNY as professor and director for the fall semester 2011 after a short retirement from 18 years as academic library director. He holds the Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and post-doctoral masters in public administration (University of Oklahoma) and library science (University of North Texas). Before starting his library career he was professor of history at Oklahoma Baptist University where he was department chair (history), division chair (social sciences), director of European Studies Program and initiator of Continuing Education. In between his 15 year teaching career and his library career he owned and operated three businesses in Texas and Oklahoma. He first served CUNY as Professor and Chief Librarian at the College of Staten Island and was University Librarian at Fairleigh Dickinson University. His research interests include information literacy and its development into visual literacy and information technology literacy, and library sustainability. He will teach library management and academic libraries. His book is After the Information Age: A Dynamic Learning Manifesto (Peter Lang, 2006). His publications include 20 scholarly articles and 300 book reviews. -- chirp elt Dr. Thomas T.
