From Patricia Price, Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Jennifer Jarvis, Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management:
After reviewing the academic calendar set by CUNY for this semester, we wanted to call to your attention to the fact that the schedule for Jewish holidays this
fall as they intersect with the academic calendar will present particular challenges for religiously observant Jewish students. Students who take classes on Mondays and Wednesdays will be impacted most; in some cases, four class meetings in a row will be missed.
Classes on the following dates will be affected:
-
Monday evening, October 6
-
Tuesday, October 7
-
Wednesday, October 8
-
Tuesday, October 14 (classes follow a Monday Schedule)
-
Wednesday, October 15
Please refer to the
Religions and Ethnic Holiday Calendar, which is managed by the University.
At this time, we would like to remind you of
CUNY’s Policy on Religious Accommodations.
Faculty are asked to provides assistance in minimizing hardships for affected students. Faculty members impacted by the Jewish holiday schedule should discuss
their schedule with their department chair.
Students requesting a religious accommodation should contact the Office for Student Affairs at
VPSA@qc.cuny.edu or 718 997-5500 as per CUNY policy. The AVP for Student Affairs will engage in an interactive process with the goal of finding an acceptable
accommodation.
Thank you for your cooperation.
