Curriculum Committee Minutes
December 8, 2011
Present: Brody, Chelton, Cool, Cooper, Valero
Absent: qcLISSA rep
The meeting began at 1:30 p.m.
Minutes were approved from the November meeting.
Old Business
Announcement re paid internships change.
Since the November meeting, the committee decided to put the change of policy on the class website and not to distribute to glisann.
Information re ECPSE 550. Dr. Cooper has confirmed that it is a graduate-level course.
Final Knowledge Management course syllabus. Approved except for linking the learning outcomes to assignments prior to first teaching day with a final copy submitted to the committee.
Updates on new Knowledge and Its Uses course.
Still a work in progress, but Dr. Marcum submitted a draft incorporating new readings.
Further input on 737 revision. Dr. Smiths input was reviewed and it was decided to let Drs. Chelton and Cooper revise the syllabus and if possible, the name of the course, over the break and bring back to the committee next semester
New Business:
Identification of courses to be retired.
At the suggestion of Dr. Brody, pending full faculty concurrence, 738 and 745 would be turned into examples of special topics courses. Dr. Brody will bring rewritten course descriptions and justifications for the next committee meeting.
It was suggested and agreed, pending full faulty concurrence, that 763 should be retired entirely and that book and nonbook should be omitted from the course description of 775.
702 course revisions (Brody)
Deferred until February.
More course name, description changes with justifications for 781 and 786 (Brody)
It was suggested and agreed, pending full faculty concurrence, that 786 now be called Data and Research Sources for Businesses and Enterprises, and that 781 now be called Corporate and Engerprise Information Organizations.
Proposal for a new certificate (Brody)
Deferred until February.
Prereqs for advanced technology courses (Brody)
The required prereqs for 729, 748, and 755 are obviously not in CUNYFirst. The Chair will ask Bridget to check for sure.
After some discussion of 706, the committee decided to bring the issue to the full faculty.
Minor LMS course changes (Cooper)
The committee agreed:
1, pending full faculty concurrence to be solicited by email that a request for a minor program change to 606 and the hopefully soon to be post MLS in LMS for uncertified people will be made to the GCC/Academic Senate/CUNY/NYSED for ECPSE 550 or equivalent to replace ECPSE 700 or equivalent. This program change will be requested after the post MLS program is approved by NYSED. In the interm, Dean Bodner suggested that Dr. Cooper write to the Registrar asking that 550 be accepted as equivalent to 700 until the formal change is made with NYSED
2. that the name of program 604 be changed from School Media Specialist to Library Media Specialist for Certified Teachers to match the name used by NY State;
3. that references to specific state exams be removed all LMS documentation so that a program change does not need to be made every time NYS changes its testing requirements
Question re 705 (Marcum)
Only Dr. Brody remembers the course ever being required for non-school people. The chair will communicate this to him.
The meeting adjourned at 2:40.
The next committee meeting is Thursday, Feb.9 at 1:30. Tentative agenda items include those deferred from this meeting, a review of the syllabus for Bens grant-funded oral history course, and further review of Dr. Marcums New Knowledge course.
