??Dear faculty, Welcome back! The schedule for fall 2019-spring 2020 is due by March 15 this year. Yes, this seems really early, but I must ask you to submit to me - no later than February 15th - your desired teaching assignments for next year. That is, for both semesters. Kindly list the courses you wish to teach, as well as desired location, time slot and day of the week. I have already spoken to a couple of you about this last week, but in case you have changed your mind about anything you should go ahead and reconfirm with me. If I don't hear from you by February 15th I will go ahead and make the schedule based on recent history. I'm quite sure this won't be the final version of next year's schedule, but I'd like to make it close to accurate. Thank you in advance! Best regards, Shuheng Wu ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Queens College Graduate School of Library and Information Studies SCHOLARSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT Deadline: Sunday, January 20, 2019 TO: All matriculated students of the Graduate School of Library and Information Studies, Queens College, CUNY FROM: The Admissions, Academic Standing and Student Affairs Committee RE: Ellen Libretto and Adam Conrad Scholarship: Spring 2019 Semester Beginning with the Spring 2019 semester, the GSLIS will offer academic scholarships to support matriculated students considering research projects in the field of youth literacy; focused upon youth, whose ages or academic progress might place them in grades K - 12. As an example, these projects might include but are not limited to ones that look at the impact or the support of literacies in different everyday contexts such as libraries, schools, and community organizations. Some examples of research projects in the field of youth literacy may be found at: http://www.ala.org/tools/research/librariesmatter/category/provider-critica… http://www.ala.org/pla/resources/tools/youth-services/early-literacy The scholarship money will be used to pay the awardees tuition for LBSCI 709 (Research in Library and Information Studies) and LBSCI 791 (Independent Study). If the awardees have already taken LBSCI 709 prior to being awarded the scholarship, the scholarship money may be used to pay for up to two LBSCI 791 courses. The courses may be taken in successive semesters. The committee will consider the following factors during their review of applications: 1. Applicants have completed at least 18 credits by the end of the Fall 2018 semester 2. Applicants are taking or have taken ONE or more of the following courses: LBSCI 737, 739, 764, 765, 767, 773, or 777 3. Applicants have at least a 3.5 GPA (as it appears in an unofficial transcript) Applications should be sent in one email submission with attachments (doc, .docx or .pdf) to Dr. Shuheng Wu, Chair of the GSLIS Admissions Academic Standing and Student Affairs Committee, at Shuheng.Wu(a)qc.cuny.edu, and should include the following: * The completed APPLICATION FORM (see attached) * A Research Project Proposal (500-1000 words) addressing the following questions: * Research Statement-What is your research topic? How does it relate to youth literacy? * Goal or Goals-What is the expected outcome of your research project? * Your Background-What elements in your background or education will facilitate these goal(s)? * Outline of Plan-How will you accomplish the outcome? What is your schedule for accomplishing this plan? * A current unofficial student transcript The deadline for applications is Sunday, January 20, 2019 The Admissions, Academic Standing and Student Affairs Committee exercises the right to determine the number of scholarships awarded each semester.
