I would like to take full advantage of this benefit by preparing a list of textbooks you’ll be requiring of your students this coming year. Therefore, kindly forward your syllabus to me by mid-August. Or, if it is easier, send me the full bibliographic information for your textbooks and include course information. We can request print or e-books so let me know your preference. In addition to “textbooks” , if you have a need for an electronic “reference type” resource for any of your classes, forward the information to me and include a brief information as to what class(es) it would support. Gslisadjuncts Budget cuts and course schedule for fall 2014

Dear colleagues, Yesterday the College P&B learned that CUNY has cut nearly $10 million from the QC budget. In a separate email I sent around the materials that were distributed. The get to the bottom line, the adjunct budget is one area that will significantly impacted and we have been told that courses with low enrollment will be cancelled. For us, we can argue for 8 students to make the cut, but this still leaves us with many courses that will have to be cancelled for the fall. On the bright side, we have had a healthy influx of new admissions this past spring and summer, so I expect that the situation will look better come spring. Thank you for understanding. This is from Drs. Cool, Cooper and Perry: Dear Students, Alumni, and Faculty, As you may have heard, Epsilen, our ePortfolio (QPortfolio) host has entered bankruptcy proceedings and is not likely to be around much longer. (We cannot predict exactly how long). We are in discussions with the Center for Teaching and Learning as to possible alternative solutions, but it will not be possible to arrange for an orderly migration to another platform in the immediate future (i.e. this summer). So, we strongly encourage you to remove your materials currently stored in your Epsilen ePortfolio and save them on the hard drive of your home computer in a folder in anticipation of a future migration during the fall or spring. Remember to remove material listed under Profile (left column) as well as all Files/Folders, etc. listed under Utilities in the left column. For example, simply deleting a photograph from your ePortfolio Welcome Page will not remove it altogether from your ePortfolio - it will still reside in a File/Folder under Utilities. You need to go through every area in your ePortfolio very thoroughly and remove all your material and personal information if you wish to safeguard your information. We wish there was an automated way for the system to do this, but the Center for Teaching and Learning has investigated and has no likely solutions. As you know, for security reasons only the student has control over his/her materials and this cannot be superseded. We regret the inconvenience but encourage you to remove your materials and store them safely as soon as possible. For the summer classes, we anticipate the best bet is also to save the files you would otherwise have posted on Epsilen in a secure folder for awaiting future directions.
