Dear students, alum and adjunct faculty, I am very happy to let you know that we received a glowing report from the External Review Panel after their site visit earlier this month. Among other things, the report notes the high quality of students, faculty and staff and the exceptional level of support for GSLIS demonstrated on by all of you. While our reaccreditation process will not be over until January 2015, when the Committee on Accreditation meets with GSLIS representatives and issues its determination, I think we should all feel very positive at this time. Dear Students, Thanks so much for your expressions of interest in our new joint program with history. A slightly revised and updated description of how to apply is attached. At the current time, we are NOT requiring an additional application fee for those applying at this initial stage; this may change as the bureaucratic processes are finalized. For those of you in your last semester who might wish to participate in the program; you would have to postpone receipt of your MLS until the completion of the history component. It will not be necessary to drop 709. An additional 27 credits would be needed in history; there is a possibility that one of your LBSCI courses could be accepted by History; this will be handled on an individual basis. For those pursuing the joint program part-time, it can be completed in up to six years. Please see attached; if you have additional questions not answered by the above or the attached, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Dear Faculty and Student colleagues, As we continue with the Advisement process and as more advanced students contemplate registering for courses towards the completion of their degree, the Curriculum/Ed Tech (CET) Committee thought it might be helpful for students and faculty to have a listing of GSLiS courses appropriate for various areas of concentration (e.g. Academic, Public, Digital Resources Management, etc.) beyond those in the Certificate programs. We hope that the attached document will provide additional guidance to students as they speak with faculty during advisement and as they complete their program plans. Your program plan need not specify exactly when you plan to take a course, but only suggests that the courses, when offered, that would support your anticipated area of specialization.
