Dear English Majors and Minors, I hope the Spring semester is starting off well for all of you. I'm writing to introduce myself, although I know I have met or exchanged emails with many of you already. I'm Karen Weingarten, Acting Chair of the English Department for this academic year. ("Acting" means that I took over Professor Burger's term because he stepped up to be Dean of Graduate Studies.) I also wanted to let you know that the Department has resources and can offer help if you have any questions or concerns. We're happy to advise you about the courses you still need to complete your English Major or Minor; we can answer questions about particular issues you might be having in your courses; and we would like to know if your instructor is absent more than twice. Please let me know if you're worried because your instructor is missing several classes or is regularly late.
