Hello, My name is Ameila Inderjeit, I am a graduate student within the Masters in the Art of Teaching English Education for grades 7-12, with an expected graduation of either Fall 2019 or Spring 2020. My contact information is the following: - Email: ainderjeit@yahoo.com - Phone: 347-282-4759 The best thing I learned in an English class is the ability to challenge theories you have been taught. As part of my English Theory course, with Professor Roger Sedarat, I challenged Walter Benjamin's theory of art losing it's "aura" each time it is reproduced, through the theories of Fredric Jameson, Friedrich Nietzsche, and Jean Baudrillard. Through proper strategy, I was able to demonstrate how the work of these theorists challenged the idea of the "aura" in their works, arguing that a work of art was never "complete" at it's time of finalization. Utilizing this, I was able to craft a paper, which discussed a medium of art within another medium, of literature, while demonstrating my idea with a scene from the television show "Boy Meets World." It sounds tremendously complex, and was always an idea in my mind I considered, but never felt I could execute. With the help of Professor Sedarat, I learned the best thing about being an English major, is the ability to turn a jumbled, crazy idea from your mind into reality--and the pleasure of exploring such. Working with this paper, crafting an idea on my own, which I one-day hope to use as a dissertation, has reminded me of my passion for literature, and the reward of exploring your passion. I believe that is the greatest thing I have learned in an English class, and through the major itself--to follow your passion and ideas, as though they may seem overrated or difficult to grasp, they are worthy and there is a place for these thoughts, beyond the insides of our mind.
