Subject: SHAKESPEARE ACADEMY @ STRATFORD - NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR SUMMER 2017

Hello,

As a fellow educator and Shakespeare enthusiast, I am pleased to share with you an exciting summer training opportunity. The Shakespeare Academy @ Stratford is a six-week theater and performance program currently accepting applications for our 2017 ensemble. We would be grateful if you could share this information with your Queens College English undergraduates.

In addition to being the Shakespeare Academy @ Stratford Program Coordinator, I am also a SA@S alum! Please feel free to reach out with any questions and share my contact information with any interested students. More information can be found below as well as on our website.

Thank you!

All my best,
Kelly Letourneau

APPLY BY APRIL 1 TO JOIN

 THE SHAKESPEARE ACADEMY @ STRATFORD'S 2017 ENSEMBLE

The Shakespeare Academy @ Stratford is a six-week theater and performance program that uniquely combines the study of Shakespeare's text, contemporary ensemble training, and the opportunity to rehearse and perform in two of Shakespeare’s plays in repertory. The 2017 program runs from June 26 to August 8.

Now entering its fourth season, SA@S provides 14 students from around the U.S. and abroad with a rigorous, collaborative and immersive conservatory experience. Housed together in Stratford, Connecticut, the ensemble trains and performs on the property that once housed the legendary American Shakespeare Festival Theater where performers such as Katharine Hepburn, Paul Newman and Christopher Walken brought their magic to the work of Shakespeare for decades.

Perhaps the most exciting and unique aspect of the program is the chance to rehearse and perform in not one but TWO Shakespeare productions simultaneously in the final week of the program.  Beginning this season, SA@S will invite a working professional to serve as guest director on one of the two productions. This summer, New York City based director, Jessi D. Hill, will direct The Tempest and SA@S Artistic Director Brian McManamon will direct the second play, Measure for Measure.

In addition to daily ensemble classes and weekly work-in-progress showings, the SA@S ensemble participates in master classes led by internationally recognized instructors from programs such as Juilliard and the Yale School of Drama. Master classes in 2016 included acting, text, Droznin, Lucid Body, voice, speech, clown and stage combat.

The Shakespeare Academy @ Stratford is looking to assemble a diverse ensemble from a wide range of experiences and backgrounds. Students entering college, attending college, as well as recent college graduates may apply. Prior training in theater and/or Shakespeare is not a requirement for admission. Two scholarships will be awarded this season. Application deadline: April 1st.

Instructions on how to apply as well as more information about the program, faculty, and classes can be found on our website.

If you or your students have any questions about the program, please feel free to e-mail me at kelly@shakespeareacademystratford.org.
