Subject: Deferred Graduation ceremony

Dear students,

as you may have heard by now, the Spring 2020 commencement ceremony has been postponed.  It had originally been scheduled to take place on May 28.  Although graduating students will still receive their diplomas, we cannot congregate for Commencement, for obvious reasons.

Like many of you, I am so very saddened by this news. Commencement is a wonderful occasion, and the English faculty cherish the annual opportunity to celebrate our students' accomplishments.  For our graduating class, it is especially disappointing.  Although we cannot offer you an actual ceremony this Spring, I am hoping that we can offer some small alternatives.

First, we will be setting up an English department virtual commencement website.  Over the next few weeks, we will be working on posting videos of congratulation from our faculty and other students.  More details will follow by mid-May.

Second, I would like to invite all graduating seniors, MA, and MFA students and their families to the Spring 2021 English department commencement ceremony.  We may not be able to have a ceremony this year, but we would be delighted if you returned next year, when we will celebrate two graduating classes!  If you are interested in returning for next year's commencement, please fill out this form.  You will then receive in invitation to attend next year's ceremony in Spring 2021.

As always, please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

With warm wishes, and hoping you are safe and well,

Prof. Silyn Roberts
