Dear CUNY Undergraduate students and Faculty,
We're happy to announce the start of Transit(ion): A CUNY Undergraduate Journal! Born out of the CUNY Graduate Center's English Department, by students DeVaughn (Dev) Harris and Rani Srinivasan, this journal seeks to unite students across the CUNYVerse and facilitate the exchange of knowledge amongst burgeoning critical thinkers. In addition to accepting and publishing work from undergraduate students, our priority is to mentor students throughout the publication process and help them grow as students, scholars, and writers. We recognize that college can be a transitory period for students, involving constantly changing schedules, thinking, sociality, etc. With that in mind, we aim to cultivate this space so that we may publish writing – in the academic genre – of many kinds from students. Additionally, as part of our mission, we aim to upend and disrupt (through our editing and mentoring processes) colonial notions of correctness, academic vernacular, and technologies of grammar and prioritize the value of critical thinking and the nuanced development of ideas. We hope that students can see a home for their writing in this journal as we aim to facilitate the responsible production and exchange of knowledge as well as shine a spotlight on the work of emergent writers.
With all that in mind, we want to showcase our call for papers, which can be found - as a quick link - at our Manifold website https://cuny.manifoldapp.org/journals/cuny-transition! Both the Call For Papers as well as the submission form can be found on our webpage (and our call for papers is attached to this email). We are looking forward to viewing works that align with the range of topics we've listed and encourage students to use the space of the final stretch of the semester (e.g., seminar/research papers, etc.) to develop their submissions. We ask that students submit their work for consideration by June 1st, 2023 and if you have any questions or concerns, please email us at cunytransition@gmail.com. Thank you in advance - we can't wait to read your fabulous works!!!
Wishing you all the best for the end of the academic year,
The Transit(ion) Team
