NEW COURSE FOR
ENGLISH EDUCATION STUDENTS:
201W
offered in FALL 2015
If you are an English Education 7-12 Co-major (or an English major interested in education), please be advised that beginning in fall 2015, English Education students will be required
to take English 201W as one of their English electives. The new course will be offered only in the fall, and it is a
prerequisite for SEYS 360 (the first English methods course, taken during the spring preceding fall semester student teaching).
ENGLISH 201W will focus on narrative writing, argumentation, and the analysis of a variety of fiction and nonfiction texts, as well as research. Topics will include current debates about
education and writing, including the Common Core State Standards and other key issues in English education today. This course will be instrumental in preparing students for the new Content Specialty Test (CST) Exam in English Language Arts, which is required
for initial teaching certification in New York State.
To register for this course, please see an English education advisor in SEYS, in Powdermaker Hall 150 (see Dr. Costigan or Dr. Caraballo). Please email Dr.
Caraballo at limarys.caraballo@qc.cuny.edu or
contact the English Education Program if you have any questions.
