Dear Karen,
I would love to inform your students in the English Department that applications are open for the spring 2020 semester of
DREAMing Out Loud at Queens College.
Would you please pass this email and the attached flyer to them at your earliest convenience?
DREAMing Out Loud is a tuition-free creative writing workshop program for undocumented immigrant youth from the City University
of New York. We primarily seek to serve those who came to the United States when they were children, but we also welcome DACA recipients, new citizens, and young immigrants in search of community.
The program seeks to counter rising anti-immigrant sentiment in the U.S. and to amplify the voices of many living in this country who are marginalized because of their immigration status. The
program was founded in 2016 by award-winning novelist Álvaro Enrigue and PEN America, the only organization working at the intersection of human rights, literature, and free expression in New York City.
The 2020 season of DREAMing Out Loud will host workshops at Queens College, Medgar Evers College, Lehman College, and PEN America. It will take place for eight two-hour sessions from the first
week of February through the last week in March. Cherry Lou Sy, an accomplished playwright and educator, will lead the workshop for Queens College.
Major benefits of the program also include:
The deadline to apply is Friday, January 17, 2020.
The form is brief and applications are rolling, so
apply here today!
If you or your students have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact the program's manager, Nicole Gervasio, at
ngervasio@pen.org, or student coordinator, Yesica Balderrama, at
ybalderrama@pen.org.
All the best,
Nicole Gervasio, Ph.D.
