I just wanted to share a couple of announcements regarding the English undergraduate club. On Wednesday Dec 11 at 12.30pm, Prof. Lee Norton will be visiting the club in Klapper 334 for an informal chat about his experience as a volunteer with the not-for-profit literary collective, Ugly Duckling Presse. If you are interested in learning more about nonprofit work in the arts sector and at independent presses, please come along. Prof. Norton is happy to answer any questions you may have about this kind of work. December 11 will also be the last meeting for the club for the Fall semester. We will reconvene in the Spring. I coordinate a program called Professionals on/off Campus in which we connect distinguished alumni with current students. I wanted to reach out in regards to a cool opportunity for English students. Mary Murphy ‘81 from PIX11 News will be hosting students at the newsroom on Friday, October 18. The students would arrive at 11:30am for a tour of the newsroom and will get to see them produce a Facebook “Live” show through the control room with Emmy-award winning journalist John Muller! The midday show begins at 1:00pm, so students can anticipate the visit to last between 2/2.5 hours. It would be wonderful if you can share this with your department and students.
